TLV61048: Is there a higher efficiency replacement for TLV61048?

Hello,

   We have a product on the market that uses the TLV61048. Input is 3x 'C' cell batteries. Output is 5V, 1.2A. It only runs for about 5 seconds, then 30 second wait, then 5 second again, etc.

I did testing and efficiency is about 72% at 4.5Vin, down to 65% at 4.0Vin. I tested another DC-DC converter (TPS61230A) and that was significantly higher, around 91%. But not pin compatible.

Are there any pin-compatible replacements for TLV61048? Customer has already built > 1000 PCBAs so we would much prefer to rework instead of totally replace.

    Hi Derek,

    For high efficiency SOT-23 package IC and such working condition, I think there is no more suitable device. Because TLV61048 is higher voltage rated IC and is non-synchronous, the efficiency will be lower. I think the most similar package IC is TPS61023, but its package is SOT563.
