TPS75003: Frequency Drop

Part Number: TPS75003

Hi.

I was hoping to get some assistance regarding your component. I have a Tier 1 semiconductor company that is requiring information for a Line down situation.

For now our problem has been narrowed down to this location on the schematic attachment using your Power Management IC. We have an output on the voltage line TP5201 which outputs 1.2 volts that could be causing these issues. Based on measurements with the supplier the voltage ripple has increased to 90mVpp and the frequency dropped to 25KHz.

Unfortunately, We do not know the load at the end of the circuit.

are there any tolerances that could cause a shift in frequency and regulation?

  • Hi David,

Is this a new system design or is this a system that has been in production for some time now?

    Best regards,

    Layne J

  • Hi Layne,

This system has been in production for some time now, years even. recently we have been seeing an influx of issues regarding communication. We have narrowed it down to a fault in the 1.2 Volt line based on some measurements taken from our Supplier.

Supposedly the optimal operating measurements are around 75KHz with a 40mVpp ripple.

    regards,

  • Hi David,

Have there been any BOM or component changes due to supply issues? If this is an issue that has not been observed in the past then a BOM change is a possible cause due to differences in the performance of any replacement components.

    Best regards,

    Layne J

  • Hi Layne,

Unfortunately, I am unaware of any BOM changes. So far I have a couple Units reading 32KHz switching frequencies and some units outputting the 75KHz frequency. As far as I know, Nothing has changed. we have come up with a couple of theories like issues with solder points and component contact to no avail. External factors are being checked and so far the only thing this is leading to is to internal PCBA issues.

These lines are supposed to support a Cypress/Infineon CYUSB2014-BZXI (USB + uC), Xilinx FPGA:

      1.2v, 3.3v, 5v supply from TI TPS75003 PMIC

      Cypress VDD: 1.15min-1.25max

So we are unclear on the issues that could cause this now.

    Regards,

    David Martinez

  • Hi David,

This is a legacy device with limited knowledge. We need to understand any and all BOM changes as this is likely key to the reason this change is being seen.

    Best regards,
