LM5156-Q1: Design Review

Part Number: LM5156-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5122

Hi,

Please help with the review of the below boost converter design.

  1. Input: 9VDC - 12.6VDC
  2. Output: 24VDC (max. 12Amp)
  3. Switching Frequency: 440kHz

Thanks

Rishi

  • Hello,

Thanks for reaching out. The output power sounds high for an asynchronous controller and the losses might be high due to the high load current. Would you consider instead a synchronous boost controller (like for example the LM5122 or LM5123) in order to achieve better performance? In general it is not recommended to put diodes in parallel (unless they are in the same package) as the forward voltage is decreasing with increasing temperature.
The thermal management of the PCB might also be challenging too in this case as the current in the system will be quite high. Please let me know your thoughts, I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,
    EM
