TPS82740B: query on TPS82740B

Hello, I need a clarification on the TPS82740B step down converter.

The TPS82740B is rated for a 200mA current output, however it's not clear to me if I need to enable the LOAD pin to get the full 200mA or if I can disable it (by pulling CTRL pin low) and still get the full current from Vout pin.

please find attached the circuit I've designed, could you please let me know if the TPS82740B device can deliver up to 200mA with this arrangement?

Hi Giorgio,

The total output current from the VOUT and LOAD pins of the device is 200mA. If the LOAD pin is disconnected or if there is no current flowing through it, the complete 200mA is available on the VOUT pin.

In the schematic you showed, the device should be able to deliver 200mA on VOUT.

Thanks Varun, this helps a lot! I don't understand then, what's the point of pin LOAD if I can still draw the full current capacity from VOUT?

Hi Giorgio,

The LOAD pin is like a switch, giving the option to connect/disconnect other system components to the VOUT pin.
