UCC28056: UCC28056 to UCC28056A/C products variant

Part Number: UCC28056

Hello,

Ever since our customer face on UCC28056A supply constraint, he is planning to use UCC28056C in addition to existing UCC28056A. Then he needs our help for better understanding of products differences, side effects, background as shown in below.

- Could you please let him know why we developed these tree variant UCC28056A, C and B.

- Could you please let him know the product differences. We could see those differences in slua974 document. Are there any other differences among these.

- Could you please suggest how the customer should evaluate UCC28056A and UCC28056C to know the performance differences. Since it seems like burst mode threshold differences in these, I suppose audible noise evaluation is one of the key. Could you please suggest other key parameters or performances that he should evaluate.

best regards,

  • Hello Toshiro-san,

The product variations are provided to accommodate different customer needs based on field feedback. The feature differences are subtle, but important to some customers.

Section 5, Device Comparison Tables in the datasheet provides the full matrix of differences in the product variations.

Audible noise evaluation will be a good parameter to verify due to the lower burst-mode threshold on the "C" version versus the "A" version. Also, OVP2 threshold needs to be considered since the same resistor divider used to set the brown-in threshold also fixes the OVP2 threshold. Since the "A" version does not have OVP2, this was not an issue for that version but may be so for the "C" version.

    I hope this helped.

    Regards,

    Ray

  • Hello, Ray-san,

Thank you very much for your answer. Your suggestion must be helpful.

Some supplemental questions from the customer are

    - Is there any reason why UCC28056 is specified "Not recommended for new design" in the datasheet. Is this camming from ZCD related issue.

    - Could you tell us if UCC28056A and UCC28056C are manufactured in same FAB, ASSY site.

    Best regards,

    T.Imi

  • Hello Toshiro-san,

The "Not recommended for new design" is due to the ZCD-related issue.

The UCC28056A and UCC28056C are manufactured in same FAB & ASSY site
