TPS25982: Design Questions

Part Number: TPS25982

Hello,

Customer is designing new circuit with TPS25982. They want to ask some questions from the datasheet:

Here is the datasheet they study: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps25982.pdf?ts=1652250086190&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fstore%252Fti%252Fen%252Fp%252Fproduct%252F%253Fp%253DTPS259827ONRGER

Based on the typical circuit from the datasheet,

Q1. Do I need to put a TVS on the input side?

Q2. Why put a Schottky diode on the output side? What is the function of that Schottky diode?

Q3. Due customer don't use PG pin, pin 13. Can they keep PG pin be floating? If not, what configuration should be arranged?

Thank you.

  • James,

    Please see my response:

    1. For 12V application we recommend TVS as the chances of VIN exceeding device abs max input voltage due to transients because of line inductance is more. TVS is not needed for device to work.

    2. Schottky protects device from negative transient that can happen during short at output due to inductance between VOUT pin and load. Negative transient can exceed device out pin abs min rating and cause damage to device.

Please read 10.1 Transient Protection section of datasheet for more details.

    3. Yes PG can be floating.
