BQ27Z561: Will bq27z561 operate with a cell that has 2.0V to 2.8V

I'm looking for a BMS and fuel gauge for an LTO cell that has a voltage range of 1.8V to 2.8V. I see that the bq27z561 has a minimum operating voltage of 2.0V, which may be good enough. Are there any issues with BMS functionality or fuel gauging with the bq27z561 from 2.0V to 2.8V cell voltage?

Hello Joe,

This should be fine as long as the cutoff voltage is slightly above 2V otherwise the gauge may shutdown.

Thanks Wyatt. What are the implications if the bq27z561 shuts down? Does the fuel gauge have to be reprogrammed, or does it lose any learned parameters?

Hello Joe,

No, this is a flash based gauge so all learned and configuration information will be saved. The data lost will be RAM, like the SOC (RemCap and FCC) and state information (state time, etc).

When the gauge wakes up from shutdown it will take an OCV to calculate the gauging values again.
