Good day,

We use the above ti chip for battery management on our battery pack (we use LEDs to display the SOC).

We performed short circuit tests at the terminal of the battery pack as part of our qualification process - the battery pack is connected to the PC via the USB interface adapter so as to enable us to log the data whilst the test is performed.

In some instances, when a short circuit is initiated, LED5 flashes (blinks) for roughly 2 seconds and then the communication to the bqwizard3 software is lost.

We would like to find out what the flashing LED5 means. Your assistance will be much appreciated.

We found out what it means - LED5 flashing is an indication of system reset.

Hi,

we have the same problem: when test the HW short circuit threshold between P+ and P-, the bq78pl114S12 records a reset instead to continue to correctrly working.

Same problem if using bq78pl116.

Same problem if we do not use the SMBus communication to log the events. I think that the ground reference of SMBus channel, that is at same P- reference, have some kind of spike that send the bq78pl in reset mode.

SMBus design is like the one in the evaluation board.

Is this behavior ordinary, or there is somethings going wrong?

problem resolved if set 100us the reaction time for HW short circuit detection
