TPS548B28: could TPS548B28 be used for parallel output?

Part Number: TPS548B28
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM27403, TPS53355

Hi expert,

My customer want to use our part to design the rail 3.3Vin, 0.8V/20A output.

We found that TPS548B28 might fit their requirement but the thermal would be the issue if their TA is around 50~60'C.

Thus, could they use 2 pcs TPS548B28 or A28 in parallel for this rail to prevent thermal shut down?

Or is there any better solution could be used for this case?

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Cindy

  • No,  the TPS548B28 is not suitable for paralleled output.

Alternative solution are LM27403 or TPS53355

The TPS53355 supports 30A and has a split rail input (power stage input and the device bias)

The 3.3V input  can connect to the power stage input (VIN pin) and use a small charge pump or boost converter to supply the VDD pin.

The charge pump/boost should convert the input of 3.3V to 5V or greater on VDD.
