LM1085: About Max. Power Dissipation vs Temperature

Hello Expert,

I want to clarify Case Temperature of Figure 5.

Is it Junction-to-case(top) temperature or Tc case temperature (surface temperature on the Case of Chip)?

Also, Could you please explain about "CASE TEMPERATURE AS LIMITED BY MAXIMUM JUNCTION TEMPERATURE"?

Hey Michael,

Junction-to-case (top) temperature is the surface temperature on the case of chip. Case temperature in this graph also means junction to case top.

"As limited by maximum junction temperature" means above 125 degrees C this is above apps max temperature for this part.

Also please disregard this graph as the values for power on this graph is incorrect.

I also thought that the y-axis power was weird.
