BQ25618: question about Host Mode and charging

Part Number: BQ25618

Hello team,

My customer has some question about BQ25618.Would you please advise?

1) The customer would like to use BQ25618 with host mode.
To keep BQ25618 configuration setting in host mode, They will set that the host will disable the watchdog timer by setting the WATCHDOG bits = 00.
But they do not have POR details, so they have a question.
Can they keep BQ25618 the host mode if either VBAT or VBUS is applied? or Is it required that both voltage ware applied?
It seems that POR works when either VBAT or VBUS rise, so I am thinking that both voltage are required. Is it correct?

2) If the customer can secure enough current from VBUS, BQ25618 can pass current to SYS while charging?  Although I believe it can do, I would like ask you.

Sorry that they ware easy questions. Your advice is appreciated.

  • Hi Akihisa,

    1) With watchdog timer disabled the BQ25618 will remain in host mode as long as there is adequate power from either Vbus or Vbat. The device does not require both to remain in host mode. The required Vbus for active I2C (i.e. host mode) is typical 3.3V (max 3.7V). The required BAT voltage for active I2C when no VBUS is present is 2.5V. These values are listed in the electrical characteristics section of the datasheet.

    2) You are correct. As long as the input adapter has enough power it will provide current to SYS while also charging the battery at the fast charge current setting.
