Buck-boost converter with COTS transformer

Hi Team,

Our customer is looking for assistance in designing an isolated buck-boost converter with COTS transformer. According to our customer, all attempts to use the TI WEBENCH Power Designer results in a design requiring a custom transformer. They were hoping TI had done a similar exercise in the past or for another customer that resulted in a COTS transformer being used. Below are the power supply specifications.

Input voltage: 20-40V (45V tolerant is preferred but other protection can be added if needed)
Output: 30V @ 2-3A
Temp Range: -40C to +85C min

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

Our customer wants an isolated 30V from 20~40V. Generally you are suggest to use flyback converter in this application.

There are COTS flyback transformers. However, more infomation is needed to choose the right transformer. The switching frequency, class of insulation, temperature rise etc. plays an important role when choosing COTS flyback transformers.

    Best Regards,
