Isolated flyback supply with PFC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC38050, UCC3817, UCC28810, UCC25600

Hello,

I have an LED lighting customer that wants a Vin of 85 VAC to 277VAC, PFC 90+ from 50% load up to full load, Constant voltage output (30 to 40 V DC), 150 watts, Isolated Class 2 UL and Safety, High efficiency 90%+ from 75 % load to full power

Ideally, they'd like all of this in one part.  They claim LTC has something on their roadmap.  A 2 chip solution would be acceptable too for PFC and flyback.  Maybe the UCC38050 or UCC3817 combined with the TPS281x?  I just want to know if one of these options would work, or if we have something new coming out later this year that would be a better fit.

Thanks,

Eric

  • I don't think you will hit your efficiency goals with a PFC front end followed by a flyback converter.  If you use this setup you might be luckyto get 80% efficiency.

You might try a UCC28810/1 in a CCM boost followed by UCC25600 controlling an LLC.  The following link will get you to an EVM for a 100W multi string LED application. http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu380b/sluu380b.pdf  Figure 7 shows the efficiency of this setup to be better than 88% from 50% to 100% load.
