TPS6594EVM: EVM Not Working

Hi Team, seeking for your assistance about the customers concern.

The problem is with the card power input, so we did not get to the communication or connecting the card to the PC

Connecting 3.3V to the card to VSYS connector J6 – we see no current draw and none of the LEDs are on
We tested on J15 pin 8 and got 3.3V – so connection on J6 is OK
Testing on J15 pin 6 we see 0V – so problem
Testing on R21/D1 we get 3.3V
Testing on R39 we get 0V

Testing continuity between R21/D1 and R39 showed no connection between them – this is a fault in the PCB
Testing continuity between J15 pin 6 and R39 showed no connection between them – this is a fault in the PCB
R39 measured 0R so the part is ok

Hello Mark,

Without any other power connections, please connect the EVM to the PC using the USB-C header.

Do you measure 3.3V at J15-6, 5V at J15-8, and 1.8V at J30-3?

Hi Michael,

Using the silk for J15 (same as the schematics)
J15 -6 (silk VSYS SENSE) measure 0V
J15 -7 (silk 3.3V) measure 3.3V
J15 -8 (silk VSYS) measure -0.116V
J15 -9 (silk 5V) measure 5V

Using the silk for J30 (same as the schematics), jumper connecting pins 2 and 3
J30-1 (silk 1.8V) measure 1.8V
J30-3 (silk 3.3V) measure 3.3V

TP1 (silk VCCA) 0V

Hell Mark,

Something does appear to be wrong with the board and I am very suspicious of the Q1 fet. You can try powering the board and PMIC without the using the Fet.

To do this:

Remove R26 so OVPGDRV is floating.
Remove R39 and change R27 to a 0ohm so that VSYS_Sense is grounded.
Connect EVM to PC via USB-C
Apply 3.3V to VCCA on J28. You can try connecting J15-7 to J28, but I recommend a separate 3.3V source.

You should see at least 1 LED turn on and LDOVRTC and LDOVINT should measure 1.8V on J13 or J14.

If the above works, you should be able to use GUI to talk to the PMIC even if other rails don't turn on.
