BQ25798EVM: BQ25798EVM & BQ34z1xxEVM coexistence with bqstudio

Part Number: BQ25798EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQSTUDIO, BQ25798

I have my BQ25798EVM hooked up with a BQ34z1xxEVM and an EV2400 in the following test setup...

When cable m15 is connected, the bqStudio goes straight to the BQ34z1xxEVM screen.  But when I want to use bqstudio for the BQ25798EVM, I have to disconnect m15.  Then bqstudio gives me a "Supported Targets" screen where I can select between Gauges, Chargers, etc.  After I select Charger > Charger_2_00-bq25798.bqz, I sometimes get the correct screens for running the bq25798; sometimes I get an error message that says "No free adapters are available for use on this system."

It's inconsistent and is making my evaluation more difficult.

How can I move back and forth from within bqstudio to target either the gauge or the charger?

Carl

  • Hello Carl,

BQStudio uses a check for the gauge to see if the correct BQZ is present in the config folder, if it is it will automatically open the gauge to prevent the wrong BQZ from being used and permanently damage the gauge.

For chargers they cannot be damaged with the wrong BQZ from a memory perspective and they do not auto detect. If you want to connect to the charger you would need to close all instances of BQStudio and disconnect the gauge, then manually select the charger. There is no smooth way to transition between the two unless you have 2 instances of BQStudio open with 2 EV2400s.

If you try to open 2 instances of BQStudio when there is only 1 EV2400 connected you will get the error for no free adaptors.

You can communicate with the charger when the gauge BQZ is opened using the advanced communication tab as well for doing small tests.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Wyantt, thanks.  That's kind of what I thought so, I ordered another EV2400.  Best regards,

    Carl
