BQ25601: Power path SW control

Part Number: BQ25601

Customer has a couple of questions I need help clarifying SW control of power path FETs:

  1. HIZ mode:  When enable from a register it basically shuts off the input from VBUS and the SYS voltage comes from the battery. Is this correct?
  2. If there is a voltage at VBUS and the battery is being charged is there any way to turn off the SYS voltage and still charge the battery through a register setting? I don't think this is possible since there is only one BATFET between the battery and SYS.
  3. Same as 2 but once the battery is fully charged is there a way to turn off the SYS Voltage and keep the battery off through a register setting? VBUS is present but want no connection to SYS from either VBUS or battery. Can a combination of HIZ and Charge disable or BATFET disable do this?
  • Hi Mark,

    1) Yes you are correct. HIZ mode turns off switching and by default the battery discharges to power SYS output.

    2) You are correct, there is no way to charge the battery and not also provide power to Sys pin due to the architecture of the charger.

    3) Sys voltage can be turned off when VBUS present by setting EN_HIZ = 1 (REG00 bit 7) and BATFET_DIS =1  (REG07 bit 5)

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
