TPS628501-Q1: why do we need Foldback function?

The Foldback Current Limit is an additional Short Circuit Protection.

If the device detects an output short circuit (please refer to the datasheet for the detailed procedure), it will reduce the current limit (therefore the output current), reducing the power dissipation on both load and converter.

This feature can be sometimes requested by customer, but it is usually not a must-have for our converters, since they already have a fixed current limit for short circuit protection.
