BQ25898: About PMID out put in Boost mode

Part Number: BQ25898
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25618, BQ25895

Hi,

Could you tell me about BQ25898 PMID output?
We want to use Boost mode to output power from PMID.

1.
Is it possible to output 60mA from PMID?
If not recommended, Could you tell me reason?
And When securing output power from PMID, please tell me the protection functions that are restricted.

2.
When outputting from PMID, I don't want to generate voltage in VBUS.
Is there a way to turn off RBFET (Q1) while using PMID?

Best regards,
Yusuke

  • Hi Yusuke,

Yes the BQ25898 can output up to 2.4A in boost mode, but this device is designed to output voltage at VBUS in boost and there is not a way to turn off RBFET (Q1). Also the boost mode overcurrent protection monitors the current at RBFET (Q1), you will not have this protection if attempting to used PMID as boost output.

We do have some devices such as the BQ25618 and BQ25895 specifically designed to have PMID as the boost output. On these devices Q1 is off in boost mode and there will not be voltage at VBUS.

    Regards,

    Garrett
