BQ25616: How to measure Vset in output while CC mode

Part Number: BQ25616

Hi team,

Customer set Vset to 4.1V or 4.2V in diferent case. Could you let me know how to confirm Vset is correctly set while constant current mode? Is there a use of SYS pin?

Best regards,

Hayashi

  • Hi Hayashi,

With the BQ25616 being a standalone charger there is no way to confirm Vset value during constant current mode. Also be aware the Vset pin setting only takes effect upon adapter plug in (mentioned in section 9.3.5 of datasheet). If the customer attempts to change Vset from 4.1 to 4.2 during a charge cycle the change will not take effect.

    Regards,

    Garrett

  • Hi Garrett,

Customer turns off the BQ25616 by pull EN to high, then switch Rset and then pull EN to low to start new cycle. I have confirmed with BU that this sequence will be effective. But customer struggles confirm the actual Vreg of constant voltage mode.

Let me double check again this sequence take effect or not?

    Best regards

    Hayashi

  • Hi Hayashi,

I just worked to double check with BQ25616EVM on bench and it appears the sequence discussed previously does not work to change Vset setting.

The device functions according to the datasheet. A input power cycle is needed for a change in Rset to take effect. Pull /CE high then switch Rset, and then pull /CE low will not cause the actual Vreg to change.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett

  • Hi Garrett,

Thanks for confirming. I would like to know more detail about the description below.

A input power cycle is needed for a change in Rset to take effect.

What kind of action customer need to take for changing power cycle such as POR?

    Best regards,

    Hayashi

  • Hi Hayashi,

What kind of action customer need to take for changing power cycle such as POR?

Yes, a POR will work. The customer only needs to remove then re-plug-in the input source connected to VBUS pin. The battery does not need to be disconnected from the charger.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
