BQ24032A power path problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24032A

Hi,

I have an intermittent problem with BQ24032A not switching AC to OUT.

If battery is not present and using +5V (plugpack) connected to DC input the output on OUT is sometimes <1V

Pluging and unplugging the battery fixes it.

I have PSEL="LOW" and all works well with USB power source.

Any advice how to fix it would be appreciated.

I have 3 board assembled, all with the same behaviour (intermittently not switching AC adapter) to OUT

Regards

Jan

  • Can read about short circuit protection in the data sheet.  IF the OUT pin is below 1V then the input FET is off and there is a 500 ohm connected, between IN and OUT, to protect against output shorts, so the load on the output can't be too much or the OUT pin will not rise to 1V and go into normal operation.  If the battery is present, typically this will supply any load and there will not be an issue.  This only happens when the battery is fully depleted or missing.
