BQ24210: Product could not charge up at customer side, and also chg pin indication issue.

Part Number: BQ24210

Our product is using BQ24210 as charging IC to charge battery up to 4.2V

Our customer encounter issue that they have 90% of our product not charging any current despite battery voltage is 3.9V

We try to repeat the failure here.

The result and our circuit design is attached.BQ24210DQCT issue.xlsx

Also we found that CHG pin may report wrong status. report also included in attachement.

And we come up with several question also list in the excel file.

Do you have any idea what could cause these issue?

  • Hi,

After looking at the schematic and description of the behavior you were observing, it appears that the battery is entering battery detect mode. I believe many if not all of the issues you observe can be traced back to this behavior. This can sometimes occur on this device even at high BAT voltage levels (3.9 as you were observing) when there is a large impedance between the call and the BAT pin on the BQ24210.

Can you let me know the the impedance on this path when this behavior occurs? Can you also provide some clarity on the bottom left schematic image that contains Q2? With a better understanding of what this portion of the circuit is doing I should be able to work toward diagnosing this behavior.

    Thanks,

    Jackson
