TLV767: Device selection - TLV767 vs LP2989

Part Number: TLV767
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP2989,

Hi LDO Folk,

For 12VIN 5VOUT 300mA condition, what would be the best option - TLV767 vs LP2989?

It looks no significant noise performance difference between them as below. TLV767 is the newer device. Despite of the higher current rating of TLV767, it has much lower sample price.

<TLV767>

<LP2989>

Could you help how to position two devices? What's the difference between them performance-wise? Which one is more preferred for new design?

In addition, could you check if any problem to change SPX3819 into TLV767? I do not see any problem but I'm not sure if LP2989 is more suitable device or not than TLV767. Thanks!

  • Hi Ella,

    Are there any other requirements of interest besides noise performance and cost?

    TLV767 is one of our general purpose LDOs, and a newer device as you already mentioned, and depending on the application and application needs, TLV767 might be a better fit.

    Best,

    Edgar Acosta

  • Hi Edgar,

    When it comes to application, it's used in base station to provide bias voltages (3.3V or 5V etc.) required for the system.

    Could you let me know if which one among TLV767 and LP2989 is suitable for this application to beat SPX3819 ?

  • Hey Ella,

    I think TLV767 would be the better choice since it has similar noise performance as the SPX3819. TLV767 is on a much newer process node than LP2989 (which is an old National Semiconductor device and won't see capacity investments).

    If they need much better noise than the SPX device, then I'd suggest LP2989, but if SPX3819 is good enough TLV767 should be our go to part here.
