TUSB542: Can we short both Tx1, Tx2 and RX1 and RX2 together

Genius 11020 points
Part Number: TUSB542

Dear TI experts ,

Our customers met a question below

"I want to use TUSB542 for which mux selection line is there but my PD Controller doesn't have any communication with Mux, I don't have any signal to indicate that cable orientation is flipped, So I want to short Both signals will short together so that I can fix my MUX select line, I want data rates up to 5Gbps.

I want to tell that I want to short TX1 P+ and TX2 P+ Together, short RX1 P+ and RX2 P+ Together, can you confirm on this!?"

Many thanks for your help!

Best regards,
William

  • HI William,

Customer should not short high speed pair together as the signal integrity will be greatly impacted. What PD controller is the customer using? TI solutions here should have GPIO to indicate cable orientation to control the mux.
