TPS763: TPS76301DBVT will get larger ripple at low temperature

Part Number: TPS763

Hi Ti engineer,

When using TPS76301DBVT, it is found that the low temperature output ripple becomes larger. When the ceramic capacitor is replaced by tantalum capacitor, the ripple returns to normal. May I ask what should be paid attention to when using this LDO?  Why is the output noise of the low-temperature LDO so bad.

  • Hi Ian,

It looks like the output is becoming unstable. This device has a pretty high minimum ESR requirement, which ceramic capacitors cannot normally achieve. Tantalum capacitors typically have much higher ESR, which is why changing to tantalum fixes the issue. I'm not sure why the output is stable at room temp with ceramic capacitors, because I would expect it to be unstable at any temperature if there is only parallel ceramic capacitors at the output.
