Hi Team,

A customer is looking for an IC that will use to drive this transformer from Wurth Electronic. The customer design has an output of 3VDC~4.2VDC and will use the said transformer to step up the voltage but the transformer won't work without the driver IC.

Can you help?

Hello Marvin,

Our expert on likely the most suitable device is out this week. I would however like to clarify the application to make sure we recommend the best device. Can you send a simplified schematic of the application circuit? Is this used to generate a bias by rectifying the secondary and driving the primary winding with a driver IC?

Hello Marvin,

Are you looking for a flyback controller? Or just a gate driver? Based on the schematic you shared, it looks like you should be looking at our flyback controllers:

Our product line is gate drivers, which your customer could use to drive the FET and transformer like the schematic you shared, but won't have any sort of feedback or control included. If you think the flyback controllers seem right, let me know and I can send your question to the team that handles those parts.

Or is the problem the 3-4.2V Vin in particular? That is really low, and not supported by any of our drivers. Its going to be hard to find a power FET that can be fully saturated with such a low Vgs. Its possible the flyback team has something, but I'm not an expert on those parts.
