BQ40Z50: Coulometer BQ40Z50 The I2C communication is abnormal

Part Number: BQ40Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25720

Hi TI engineer,

At present, your company's charging IC BQ25720 and coulometer IC BQ40Z50 are used in a certain project, and i2C uses the same channel. At present, BQ25720 I2C has been adjusted, but the I2C communication failed during the debugging of BQ40Z50.

As shown in the attached figure, the master control has normally sent the I2C address 0x16, but the feedback signal of BQ40Z50 captured is very strange, which is a dense square wave and the peak value does not reach the normal high level.

  • Hello Ian,

How are you isolating the BQ40Z50 to confirm it is sending this waveform? I suspect it may be a different device on the bus. If you separately communicate with the gauge you should not see this waveform.

Can you also clarify the data and clock lines? The lines labelled DAT looks like the SCL and VDET5V looks like data but I'm not sure if this is true.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
