TPS61178: Query for Enable pin functionality

Hello TI Team,

We are planning to use TPS61178RNWR in one of the product which is battery operated device.

We want to shutdown/disable the output voltage by driving the enable (Pin11) pin low using a switch.

Is Enable pin capable to disable the output voltage and isolate the output voltage from the input voltage?

Hi Kartavya,

Yes, TPS61178 has gate driver for load disconnection. When Enable pin is low, the PFET at output side will be turned off.

I have checked the TPS61178 internal block diagram and I am not able to understand the relation between Enable pin and DISRDV pin.

Hi Kartavya,

The TPS61178 device provides a DISDRV pin to drive the external FET at the output side, which completely disconnects the output from the input end during shutdown or output short happens.

When EN pin is logic low, the device is in shutdown mode. The DISDRV pin sink current is 0. So PFET gate to source voltage is 0V. The PFET is turned off.
