BQ34Z100: 5-7 series 18650 cells, 70WH design

Part Number: BQ34Z100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , BQ34Z110, BQ76942

I have 5-7 18650 cells in series that I need a basic fuel gauge for, that's hopefully in stock. current will be about 2A (discharging), 1-2A (charging) and capacity is 3500mAH/cell. Is the BQ34Z100 a good fit, or is there something simpler/lower cost that's available?

For charging do you have a simple/low cost charger and cell balancer?

Thanks,
Rick

  • Hello Rick,

I have assigned this thread to someone who will provide some suggestions today.

  • Hello Rick,

Unfortunately, the BQ34Z100 is out of stock on TI.com. However, if you have a lithium
based battery I would recommend the BQ34Z100-G1 which is an upgraded version of the BQ34Z100.
If you have a nickel based or lead acid battery, then I would recommend the BQ34Z110.

Unfortunately, our chargers do not support cell balancing. You should create a separate post
to get recommendation on what charger you should use as I am not too familiar with chargers.

For cell balancing, I would recommend the BQ76942 which also serves as a battery protector
and monitor for lithium based batteries.

    Sincerely,
    Nick
