LMZM23601: Drop-out mode

Part Number: LMZM23601

Hi Folks,

Customer has the below question, looking for some input from the product team:

"""

Want to understand the behaviour of the LMZM23601V5SILR, which is 5V fixed output, when the input is 5V as well. The IC can operate in dropout mode which according to datasheet will output the input minus dropout keeping regulation. could you please confirm if this approach is ok and the IC will regulate its output and won’t degrade?

"""

Thanks

  • Hello

The device will be in drop-out mode.

However, with a 5Vout device and Vin=5V, you will not get a regulated output voltage.

The output voltage will be less than 5V.  How much less depends on the load.

Please see page 10 of the data sheet "drop-out voltage" curves for more information.

It is OK to run the regulator in drop-out mode.
