The datasheet mentions modern standby being a "special case of the Idle mode". Two questions on that:
1) what is the difference to idle mode?
2) is any configuration needed to put the device to modern standby mode?
One more related question:
3) Does the power state configuration (S0/S3/S5) have any effect when different configs are *not* selected/enabled in the customization tool?

Sorry for the late reply.
The Modern Standby is a power consumption state that the PD will automatically go into when it meets certain conditions.
The difference between Idle and Modern Standby mode is where the power (voltage and current) are being drawn into. There's no setting to set in the GUI configuration, the PD will automatically go into it when the conditions are met. There are more specific details about the power consumption states on page 39-40 on the datasheet.
Regarding the power states, the device will automatically transition between the three states (four if you consider Modern Standby as one). These power states should not effect your GUI configurations whatsoever. What configs are you thinking that might effect them?
