BQ27441-G1: Need help to understand single cell usage

Hello Ti Team,

We have started to validate BQ27441-G1 to get actual state of battery and found into specifications that it can be used with single cell.

But, My question is like if i have 3S1P battery pack with <8000 mAh output current then can't we use to get SoC of battery pack?

If no then i would like to know that how thi IC will detect that we have used single cell or multiple cells into pack?

Hello Ritesh,

This gauge only supports one series cell, it can support multiple in parallel you just increase the design capacity to match. It indicates the number of cells supported and max design capacity on the main product page for the device.

If you want to find a device for multicell you can use our search tool, I would recommend the BQ40Z50 if you need protection and cell balancing, if not then the BQ34Z100-G1 can provide top of stack gauging.

So, I would like to know that if i connect 3 Li-On batteries into series and make one battery pack then is it possible to test with it?

Hello Wyatt Keller,

Just one more update from my end that we have checked with 1S3P Battery Pack which has ratings 3.7V 7800 mAh which works fine without any issue.

So, I would like to know that if current range is below 8000 mAh then either serier or parallel battery pack will be worked or not like 1S2P, 1S3P, 1P3S, 1P2S etc?

Hello Ritesh,

The gauges are designed to work based on the series cell count, so if you have 3 cells you can do a 1S3P pack to use the BQ27441-G1 gauge. If you need the higher series cell count then you would need to use a different gauge like the one I mentioned.

You cannot use a 3S1P pack with a single cell gauge.
