BQ34Z100-G1: BQSTUDIO Missing Data Memory Rows

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

Hello,

The Data Flash Summary in the BQ34Z100-G1 DataSheet includes Pb EFF Efficiency & Pb Drop Off Percent but I don't see them in BQSTUDIO.

According to the DataSheet, there should be 6 values under Configuration:Charge but only 4 appear.

BQSTUDIO-TEST has the same issue.

Please Advise.

Sincerely,

Rom

  • Hello Rom,

Pb EFF Efficiency & Pb Drop Off Percent are private parameter and are hidden to the public. This is to avoid user from changing their default values.

  • Hello Jose,

I don't think the public would be interested, but us engineers need this information to optimize the gauge's ability to account for lost charge.

Please correct me if wrong, but the four related efficiency factors are used to compute Eff Charge Efficiency.

Pb EFF Efficiency % = Charge Efficiency Pb Reduction Rate [RSOC() – Charge Effi Drop

Off] – Pb Temperature Compensation [Temperature – 25°C]

My understanding is that the Charge Efficiency = [Charge Accumulated in the Battery/Charge passed to the Battery]*100 which would be computed in the device algorithm.  I can also measure Charge Efficiency independently and compute Pb EFF Efficiency for comparison, but only if I have access to the four efficiency factors.

    Tom Rickman shared:
For the BQ34100-G1, subclass 34 offset 4 looks like the right place in flash to put whatever value you choose.
This is the Pb EFF Efficiency value that is now apparently private.
    He goes on to ask:

Does anyone know whether Texas Instruments have done anything to deal with this PbA charge efficiency problem in the BQ34Z100-G1 and associated literature yet?

To this day, this question was not answered.

Since access to key variables has been removed, is the Charge Efficiency correction no longer a usable feature of the device?

    Sincerely,

    Rom
