TPS61085T: How to achieve real shutdown

Part Number: TPS61085T
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61085

Hi,

I have used the TPS61085 in a design to convert 6V to 12V (see below). The EN pin is connected to the microcontroller, with the idea to be able to turn off the output voltage. However, this is not the case. Although the EN signal is LOW, I can measure a voltage of around 5V at the output. I guess it is the input voltage minus the diode drop.

Any good suggestions on how to truly turn off the 12V supply?

  • Hi Nikos,

TPS61085 has an inner MOS between SW and GND.

The EN signal is low only shut down the inner MOS, current will flow through inductor and diode.

If you want a solution to truly turn off 12V, namely, output is 0V when EN is low, you need to use chips with Isolation function.

You can give your detailed requirements and I will connect our team to provide a solution.

    Best Regards

    Fergus
