UCC21710: pspice simulation error

Part Number: UCC21710

Hello ,

I keep getting this error when ever i try to run the simulation.

"ERROR(ORPSIM-15143): Voltage source and/or inductor loop involving X_U3.E_E158. You may break the loop by adding a series resistance"

Any idea what is going on here?

Attaching the simulation files.

  • Hi Arun,

Thanks for your interest with UCC21710 device. When looking through your schematic, the pin out looks different from actual device pin out . Also noticed that the HV and LV gnds are shorted together.

We have a simulation workbench for UCC21710 for transient analysis - can you please try the following model?

Hope it helps to resolve your issue.

  • Thanks Sasikala , yes this works

Thanks for your support , do you have a compatible SiC mosfet with Tj and Tc terminals so that I can perform a temperature sweep ?

  • Hi Arun Kumar,

You can download the SiC FET models based on your system requirement [Bus voltage, switching speed, etc] and import to PSpice. I was looking through PSPICE for TI default library and couldn't find any existing model of SiC mosfet with Tj and Tc.

    Thanks

    Sasi

  • Hi Sasikala,

We tried to import other third party mosfet models with 3 pins(without the Tj ,Tcase and the additional source pin pins)  using the following tutorial:

    https://training.ti.com/pspice-ti-3rd-party-model-import

And were were successfully able to simulate the driver circuit. Thankyou!

Next ,We tired to import a third party model of an SIC Fet with Tj,Tcase and Vsoucesense terminals but keep getting the following Error:

The complete simulation project is attached.

    UCC21710_v4.zip

We would like to simulate a model with the temperature pins available.

    Thanks,

    Arun

  • Hello Arun,

It seems there may be an issue with the third party model and how it is is getting biased in the circuit when you apply the voltages at Tj, Tcase, etc.

If you are able to simulate the third party model without applying bias to the temperature pins, I suggest you go step-by-step to understand why the biases do not run. It is possible they aren't being referenced to the correct net (the ground of the bias source), as it is defined inside the third party model. This is depending on the third party model definition, which goes beyond our expertise of the gate drivers and their models.

If you have further questions on TI's UCC21710, please let us know! I hope you will find the issue. If you continue to have trouble and believe it is relating to PSpice for TI, then we will continue to support.

    Thank you,

    Audrey

  • Hello Audrey,

Thanks for your help. Yes it was a model issue, after changing it to a suitable SiC FET , we were able to run the simulation.

  • Hi Arun,

Awesome, I'm glad the issue was found. Good luck with the rest of the simulation, and do let us know if you have further questions!

    Regards,

    Audrey
