LM73606: 8000uF is connected to the output

Part Number: LM73606

Hello,

I am an FAE for a distributor that handles TI products.
My customer is considering using the LM73606 with the following specifications.
There is a requirement in the spec that 8000uF be connected to VOUT.
Will this device be okay with such a large capacitance connected to the output?
Are there any concerns in this case?

(Specification)
VIN : 12V (max 36V)
VOUT : 5.1V
IOUT : 6A
Capable of pre-bias operation
8000uF is connected to VOUT

Best regards,

  • Hi Kaji,

It should be OK yes. I recommend having a spot for the feedforward capacitance in case they need to make a loop adjustments.

Also I recommend increasing soft-start time, charging a large capacitance could hit current limit at startup and potentially hiccup, preventing the regulator from powering up.

They can test out the PSPICE model to check transient response and startup.

    Hope this helps,
