TPSI3052-Q1: Can TPSI3052-Q1 be used to control series IGBTs?

Part Number: TPSI3052-Q1

Hi team,

Can TPSI3052-Q1 be used to control series IGBTs?

shown as below,

Vin=2200V

  • Hi Jimmy,

Thank you very much for reaching out to us.

Unfortunately this configuration will not work. The isolation working voltage for the TPSI3052-Q1 VIOWM is 1.4kVdc. This rating determines how much voltage we can have in any pin in the secondary side with respect to the primary side. In this case as you can observe VSSS can be 2.2kVdc higher than the primary side and this is above the ratings for the device.

Let us know if this answers your questions.

    Sincerely,

    Francisco Lauzurique

  • hi team

So, you mean this solution can not drive series IGBT like this?

If I want to drive a High voltage config. Can you give a suitable solution? thx

  • Hi Jimmy,

Thank you very much for reaching out.

Basically what you need here is a device capable of floating above 2200V. I was checking if isolated gate drivers had a device rated for this working voltage. I noticed some devices rated for 2121V. I am not sure if one of these devices could be use for your application. By having working voltage above the recommended operating conditions, you would be affecting the life time of the isolation barrier. You can reach to the isolated gate drivers to have more details here.

Do you need isolation for this device? If you do not need isolation, then you could use some kind of bootstrap configuration to create a high side gate driver. This would be the best way in case isolation is not needed in your system.

Let us know if this helps.

    Sincerely,

    Francisco Lauzurique
