Inquiries regarding the following applications have been received from customers.

[Monitor that supports USB-C port only]

- Input Signal: Displayport over USB-C

- Input power: 12V (via USB C)

During the review of the application, please answer the following questions about the TUSB564 product.

1. If I design an application using the TUSB564 product, is the TPS65986 (PD controller) applied to the EVM mandatory?

Is it impossible to control through an external MCU?

2. TPS65986 product not found on ti.com.

Is this a discontinued part?

Do I need to replace it with another part?

What items can be replaced?

Please recommend.

Hi MJ,

1. We recommend to use the TUSB546 in conjunction with the PD controller as it provides redriving switching support (mux) for USB3.1 and DP1.4. Refer to the block diagram shown below:

2. TPS65986 is a NRND (Not Recommended for New Designs) device that is only PD 2.0 compliant, which is no longer certified by USB-IF. I would recommend looking into TPS65987 (single port) or TPS65988 (dual port) which are PD3.0 compliant and we can provide support for these devices. I'll also attach a comparison chart of all our of our current PD controllers that are available. Any devices with 1 next to them are NRND.
