TPS2596: Paralleling of eFuses, RIlim calculation

Part Number: TPS2596
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25924,

Hi

My application uses 4x TPS259631 eFuses. For one of the fuses, a typical load is a very high overall capacitance, (8000uF). This causes large inrush currents on startup tripping the fuse whose I limit is programmed at 1.5A.

I have used high values of Cdv/Dt (2uF,10uF) and consulted the TPS2596xx_Design_Calculator. I might be doing something wrong with this, but I think the load capacitance is just too high, however I cannot change it.

I have tested paralleling 2 of the Efuses, and this solves the startup tripping issue. The document "slva836" has been useful here. The efuse discussed in that document is the TPS25924, but the RIlim calculations are different for that part and the Efuse I am using.

Are there recommneded calculations when using 2x TPS2596 Efuses in parallel for?

1. R Ilim

2. Cdv/dt

What are the recommended connections for IMON, and FLT in this parallel configuration?

Thank you.

  • Hi Patrick,

Welcome to e2e. Thanks for reaching out. I will get back by tomorrow EOD on this.

  • Hi Patrick,

    1. Divide this by N for each RILIM value.

ILIM-> current limit of each eFuse

    2. For cdvdt, multiply below by N for equivalent Cdvdt value:

N is no. of eFuses in parallel.

TPS2596 does not have IMON pin.  You can short FLT pins if you want a single FLT signal to monitor or you can monitor them separately, its up to your choice.
