BQ2060A: Unsealed the Device

Hello Team,

We have Battery Pack based on BQ2060A in sealed Mode.

We would like to know , can we unsealed the device by sending standard Unsealed code to manufacture Access ? If so, what would be that standard unsealed code ?

i..e Like we send 0x36720414 on Mfg. Access for unseal to BQ3050.

Hello Bhupendra,

The default unseal code is the same for all products. The commands to unseal can be different. I did not find the unseal commands/procedure in the datasheet.

Note that if you are trying to unseal a pack, then it is very likely that the default keys were changed by the pack manufacturer. This may be one of the reasons that you are unable to unseal.

However , I have not tried yet to unseal the device. Just wanted to confirm before moving ahead.

Even , we also not able to find the code.

Some threads mentions that unseal only does by clearing EEPROM bit instead of BQ2060A Register...

Not sure , which one to go...

Hello Bhupendra,

Yes it should be the same default unseal keys. If it is not the default keys then the keys may have been changed and the device will be bricked.

OK....Will it create any device issue ( parameter loss ) if keys are changed and we try with default ones ?

Which Register/Flag address should i read to check whether it is Sealed Or Unsealed after sending unsealed code ?

Datasheet Mentions 0x3F register of EEPROM , Reading that address Returns 16-bit word => 0x0EE1.

With the USE of EV2400 and BQEVSW Pro Tab I m able to write and read register.

0x3F is the address in EEPROM. The command to read from the gauge is 0x2F. See Table 3. bq2060A Register Functions

Yes, But 0x2F does not have Seal bit. which is stated as : Pack Status and Pack Configuration.

Reading 0x2F returns , 0xE780 value.

Interesting. This is an old gauge, so i guess it is quite different.

You can try to read from a command not in the below description. It should fail in sealed mode per the datasheet.

SMBus read access is limited to commands (0x05–0x1c) and (0x20–0x23). SMBus read/write access is limited to commands (0x00–0x04), (0x2f), and (0x3c–0x3f).

So, you mean we have to directly write to EEPROM to unseal the device ? I do not see any Unsealkey mention into the Datasheet / Tables.

I am able to read Addresses 2F and 3C to 3F ( Cell Voltages) Correctly.

We Tried to Write Value ( = 0xA780 ) @ 2F address to make Seal bit 0. But after reading Back to 2F address it shows 0xE780 as it is.

What would be the UNSEAL Command and on what address it needs to be sent ?

There is no documented procedure as the EEPROM is not expected to be changed after the battery is manufactured. Writing the bit back to 0 and resetting the bq2060A may be a method that can be used in development/debug. You can try it.
