UCC256403: Explosion Issue of UCC256403A

Part Number: UCC256403
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC256402

Hi experts,

Nice to meet you.

Because customer's new LED driver platform added an external 16V input power supply, they selected UCC256403A to replace the UCC256402 on their new platform but without any other changes in the circuit design. Is there any other consideration that we should take into? This new platform is same with the old one except the power supply is different. The old used the HV start. The new used the external power supply.

Currently they came across a issue of explosion in output short circuit scenario after they decreased the cap value in the secondary side current loop compensator. The motivation for decrease the value is to decrease the output over shot. With old value, the platform is ok and with the designed constant output current. After the change, the plat form will go into the burst mode and then explode during startup with output short circuit. Do you have any recommendations about how to debug this case?

Red for Lower switch IDS

Thanks and best regards.
