Parallel battery charging options

We are interested in using Li-Ion cell batteries in parallel instead of series to keep the voltages lower in the system.  What TI devices are good options to handle this application?  We have standard battery packs that consist of 2 cells in parallel, but extended battery packs have 6 or 8 cells in parallel, we might also have a customer open to combining the standard with an extended for possibly 10 cells.  What devices should we consider, trade-offs, etc?  The big concern is on the balancing, but additional features needed include coulomb counter - gas gauge, and I2C communications to the microcontroller.
