I recently ordered some samples of the UC2906N for a system I am developing. I am located in a desert community in southern Utah. The primary source of power for the charger is a solar panel that supplies during bright sun 20V @ 350mA. The outside temperatures can vary from -5 to +52 degrees centigrade. I have done quite a lot of research on chargers built with this series of chargers and if have some reservations about using it for the following reasons. Some individuals have said if your not careful the SLA batteries can be over charged and can explode. There will be periods when the solar panel will not be generating power like evening and stormy days. I plan to monitor the battery voltage a disconnect any load if the 12V battery is below about 11.9V. I also there are times when the UC2906 will latch to a condition. I chose the UC2906 because of its temperature range and the fact that it changes the charge voltage as the temperature changes. I would like the best type of charger to give the greatest life of the batteries. I would appreciate any and all comments.
Thanks,
Ned
