TPS25750: TPS25750 can work without EEPROM? Configuration setting can load by external MCU?

Hi,

It's possible to load the configuration through an external host MCU, however you will need to make sure the MCU meets the required storage for flashing the PD configuration.

On our EVMs (TPS25750EVM and USB-PD-CHG-EVM-01) we use the CAT24C256WI-G, which is connected to the TPS25750 through I2C_SDA and I2C_SCL and has memory size of 256Kb (linked below). We recommend an EEPROM with at least 32 kilo-bytes (shown below in datasheet):

We have some reference design based on the EVMs linked below as well as documentation in the datasheet on how to use the I2C interface with the PD controller to configure with the flash device.

It seems unclear to me in the Technical Reference Manual exactly what is supported by the MCU flashing instructions.  The instructions in section 3.3 talk about downloading a "Patch Bundle".  However the TPS25750 Application Customization Tool and its User's Guide, which we have used to generate EEPROM contents, doesn't mention creating a Patch Bundle, or even the word patch.  This is at least initially confusing to me.  So I have some questions for clarification...

1. It looks like we should use Low Region Binary for MCU download, and Full Flash Binary for EEPROM.  Is that correct?
2. Are there differences between a Patch Bundle and the Low Region Binary, as generated by the tool?

It would be helpful if the customization tool and chip/TRM documentation were more consistent with each other in their terminology.
