TPS61165: 2 LED STRIPS -400mA @ 12VDC EACH

Hi Team,

We are going to design a circuit with an input of 12VDC that consists of 2 LED strips running simultaneously which should have 400mA @ 12VDC individually along with PWM dimming control. For this application, we are going to use "TPS61165" Driver IC. With the help of the application circuit in the datasheet, we have designed the preliminary circuit. Please verify the circuit and give us your comments on whether this design can meet our specifications (Check discrete components values as well which should meet our output requirement).

Hi Kaviya,

I think the LED current should equal to VFB/Rset. In your design the current is 0.2/0.64=312.5mA. Please confirm whether this current is what you want.

Thanks for your reply.

For our LED, we need a current of about 400mA. For that, can we change the Rset value to 0.5Ohms so that the current will match our requirement?

Hi Kaviya,

Is the CTRL pin left floating? This pin is used to enable and disable device. If you don't want another signal to control this pin, you can tie this pin to VIN.

Other parts of your schematic look fine.

What do you mean as "transistor circuit"? Do you mean another device?

Hi Patrick, we just want to control the LED of 12VDC @160mA with the help of transistor and not with the driver IC. For that can you provide a reference circuit?
