TPS22965-Q1: TPS22965NQW-Q1 Quick Output Discharge

Part Number: TPS22965-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22992

Hello team,

According to TPS22965-Q1 datasheet, TPS22965QW-Q1 can support Quick Output Discharge, while  TPS22965NQW-Q1 cann't. So I would like your help with below qusetions.

Question 1:

Does only TPS22965QW-Q1 have a switch between Pin Vout and Ground while TPS22965NQW-Q1 don't have?

Question 2:

I would like to confirm if we can add a external 225~300 Ω to out put pin so that TPS22965NQW-Q1 can support Quick Output Discharge function.

  • Hello,

    1. TPS22965N and TPS22965NW do not have quick output discharge, while the non-"N" versions of the device do:

    2. No, you cannot make the N versions of the device have QOD. The non-"N"  versions of this device have a fixed internal QOD and cannot be altered. Some devices have adjustable QOD such as TPS22992.

  • Thank you for your quick reply.

One more question to be confirmed, what I mean is that I think TPS22965NQW-Q1 can discharge quickly if we can add a external 225~300 Ω to its out put pin. However, this will result in a lot of power consumption as it works all the time once the switch works. Do you think it is right?

  • If you add an external resistance from output to ground you will have a constant leakage path even when the device is ON, but it would discharge the output quickly when the switch is turned off. It's up to you whether you're okay with having constant leakage or not. It would be preferable to use the QOD version of the device.
