front end battery charger protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24707

hi there

I have a customer who is using BQ24707 but they are worried about the over charging of the battery.

below is a situation that customer have mentioned:

For example : Require to charge a 4.2V battery. But the wrong setting of charge voltage is 12V. The 4.2V battery will be over charge. Although most of the battery has the overcharge protection and cut off the charging at around 4.4V, this does not 100% safe for the protection circuit of the battery will not fail.

Battery is a 1 ~ 4 cell battery and max charging current is @ 4A.

Any recommendations?

Thank you!

Adam

  • bq24707 has an independent build-in comparator. So, you can use it to monitor the output voltage. If the battery voltage is higher than set point, use CMPOUT pin to turn off the charger.

On the EVM board, it already included a part of that comparator circuit, you can change R38, R39 value and connect CMPOUT to right place.
