LiFePO4 Charge Profile Lithium Iron Phosphate

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24620, BQ24630

Team,

I have a customer that is looking to charge a 3-cell Lithium Iron Phosphate battery (3.3 V each at 1.5 amps). Do LiFePO4 Batteries have the same charge profile as Lithium Ion batteries? Can I use a lithium ion charger with the correct max charging voltage and current settings?

Thanks,

John

  • Lithium phosphate batteries generally require a different charge profile than lithium ion batteries.  But you need to get with your battery manufacturer to understand how they want their batteries to be charged.

We do have chargers specifically for Li phosphate batteries, such as the  bq24620 and bq24630.  But you need to confirm that their charge algorithm matches what your batteries need.
