UCC2808A-1: UCC2808

Part Number: UCC2808A-1

Hi

I saw the typical application from datasheet of UCC2808AD-2,so can anyone help to explain below:

Q1: what is ① used for ?

Q2:why add an inductor connected to GND as noted with ② ?

thanks

  • Hi Xi,

    (1) This is a full-wave rectifier.  It charges the 10uF capacitor on the VDD pin if either OUTA or OUTB is ON.  If a single diode were used then only OUTA (or OUTB) would charge the 10uF capacitor.

    (2) The inductor works with the output capacitors to form an LC filter.  Usually the inductor is drawn as shown below, but it could be placed in either location with the same effect.

    Regards,

    Eric
