BQ27441-G1: Use BQ27441-G1 to measure ambiant temperature

Part Number: BQ27441-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27741-G1

Hello,

We are thinking about using BQ27441-G1 internal temperature sensor to measure ambiant temperature.

I would like to know what is this sensor really measuring ? In the datasheet it is said that it measures the battery temperature but I dont see how is it possible since the sensor is inside the chip, not the battery pack.

Is it relevant to use the measurement as it to measure ambiant temperature ? I guess the chip is heating the sensor so the measurement must be shifted from the ambiant temperature, maybe you have a formula to compensate the offset ?

Thank you very much in advance !

Antoine

  • Hello Antoine,

bq27741-G1 internal temperature sensor measures the temperature of the bq27741-G1. When placed next to the battery, it provides a close enough measurement of battery temperature. If it cannot be placed close to the battery, you may use an external sensor. The chip consumes very little power, therefore self heating is not a concern. You may use it to measure temperature for other purposes but it was not designed for such use.

  • Perfect, thank you for the quick answer !
