LMG1020: Power

Part Number: LMG1020

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who is working with LMG1020. Please see below the query of our customer for your reference. Thank you very much.

I want to ask a question about LMG1020.

Based on data sheet, it can burst gate of n-channel MOSFET with 1A to 5A.

Is there any minimum power input requirement for this IC?

For example, for 1A charge current, it is ok to use 1W isolated dc-dc module (12V to 5V)?

Based on my system requirements, I am designing isolated MOSFET gate driver. For this, I have plans to use LMG1020.

For LMG1020, is there any power requirements for VDD?

I am planning to drive DMG2302UKQ-7 with 1 or 2A gate current.

For this, is it okay to use 5V 0.2A power source?

Based on your EVM, they used 0.1A LDO to drive this IC.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

Yes, the 5 V 0.2 A supply should work. The bypass capacitor provides the high current switching transients. Over time, the current the driver needs from VDD is a lot less.

A faster switching speed will need more power though. Do you happen to know the switching speed?

Please let me know if you have any more questions.
